Two of the most basic Montessori principles are that a child needs to attain a sense of order in the earliest years, before school, and that learning experiences through work are equally or more satisfying than learning experiences through play. The work desk and matching chair (sold seperately) provide a place for a child to sit, concentrate and enjoy first work experiences. The large storage area beneath the desk top is a place for a child to store, save and organize things, first "tools of learning" so to speak. The desk top is made of a special plastic laminate surface that is waterproof and scratch resistant making for a very durable working surface. This special laminate also readily accepts chalk and erases easily leaving no chalk shadows - a perfect surface for early drawing and writing practice. LEARNING GOALS: Helps the child attain a sense of order, and develop attention span as well as focus and concentration skills. Also provides for the development of self-image and a sense of accomplishment as the child can save and refer to previous achievements and completed projects.
