The Genaille-Lucase Rulers are similar to Napier’s Bones and Napier’s Board because they both allow the quick calculation of multiplication. In a Montessori classroom, we can also see the concept of “isolation of difficulty” here. Students can use the material to support their learning of multiplication tables, while at the same time calculate products and experience the patterns of the operation in seeing how the material works.
