𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝘁 - How do you engage your learners in practicing their multiplication facts? The Montessori 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 is the perfect context to encourage learners 6-9 to practice their math facts. Similar to the Addition Snake Game, the 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 requires that all colored beads be changed into golden beads, which form a golden snake. In this exercise, same-color bead bars are repeated in order to provide children with enough bead bars to skip count. The steps for this exercise are:

1. Build a colored bead snake
2. Count 10 beads from left to right.
3. Replace every set of 10 beads with one golden bead bar.
4. Use placeholder bars (black and white bars) for beads that weren't supposed to be in the count of ten
5. Regroup the colored bead bars per color as you set them aside.
6. Once all colored beads have been replaced, and the golden snake is completed, regroup all golden bead bars vertically beside the colored bead bars.
7. Children use skip counting (requiring knowledge of multiples) to figure out partial products (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24) which they add at the end.
8. Children compare the final product to what the golden bead bars reveal. Golden bead bars serve as a control for errors since they are easy to read (10+10+10+placeholder bar).

Children are able to practice specific tables of multiplication using the 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲. For this purpose, we have developed a set of Task Cards that invite children to lay out specific sets of beads to convert into a golden snake. Children will find the visual control on the back convenient for independent practice.
