The Stamp Game (ages 5-6) is an essential Montessori math material that serves to transition children from concrete quantities (Golden Bead Material) to abstract symbols, and to continue working with addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division.

Prior to working with the Stamp Game, children have extensive experience with the Golden Bead Material which helps children work with large concrete quantities of beads.

The Stamp Game aims to introduce quantities of numbers as symbols to reduce the materials used to process long math equations and to come close to abstract math. For instance, one green tile numbered "1" represents one unit, one blue tile numbered "1" represents 10 units, and one red tile numbered "1" represents 100 units. A color-coding system is used to determine the place value: units are green, tenths are blue, and hundreds are red. This pattern is repeated throughout the material, from right to left.

To enhance children's experience, we create a sequence of scaffolded exercises that leads children through most scenarios when working with the Stamp Game material. Visual control of errors can be found on the back of each card so that children can work independently and confidently. Repetition is key to mastery!
