This manual explores the foundations of Language for the primary age group, guiding teachers in supporting children’s earliest experiences with spoken and written expression. It begins with oral language activities, goes through practical life and sensorial activities that prepare the child indirectly for reading and writing, and then carefully sequenced pre-reading and pre-writing activities that will lay the foundation for emerging reading and writing skills.

The lessons and activities in this manual follow a sequence of instruction, providing a smooth course into studying Language from the beginning of the school year. They are appropriate for the variety of ages and developmental levels in the primary classroom, with variations for differentiation and extensions to further the work. In addition to detailed lesson presentations, this manual includes progress and lesson trackers that help educators document, monitor, and support each child’s journey through the language curriculum. This manual is the first in a set of three manuals for the Language curriculum. It is a comprehensive look into activities that balance oral language, sensory preparation, and the first steps towards reading and writing.

This manual contains 258 pages and is produced and published by Alison's Montessori and Educational Materials.
