Do you know the three plates used by Dr. Montessori to demonstrate the theorem of Pythagoras? The Montessori material, Theorem of Pythagoras, attempts to physically demonstrate that the area of a square with side length equal to the longest side of a right-angled scalene triangle (hypotenuse) is the sum of the two squares' area built on the two other sides, each square with its side length equal to the length of the corresponding side of the triangle.

As complex as it sounds in a written form, the material speaks for itself with no further need of explanation!

Theorem of Pythagoras Complete Set - consists of three metal plates made in Thailand, and precut laminated corresponding 27 Task Cards in a storage box. Theorem of Pythagoras Task Cards aim to provide information and guidance through manipulating the material in a sequenced logical manner first through sensorial mini-lessons, then through arithmetic methods. Children are taken through a process similar to the one that they received during the formal presentation led by the adult. Watch children's marveled faces when rebuilding the largest square with multicolored small squares. The Task Cards will invite children to experience all three plates and demonstrate concepts of equivalencies among triangles and quadrilaterals.
